Click Here, To Know ! How Social Networking Has Changed The World?

10:14:00

Dear Readers,
Since I can remember, I have always been doing some sort of social networking. As a pre teen, I was using AOL instant messenger, then it proceeded to Orkut, and finally to Facebook in high school and now a new addition to Twitter. I couldn't imagine my life without social media. The thought of not logging onto a Facebook account every day, as sad as it is, baffles me. Our generation has officially grown up with social media technology and to not be on track with it is deemed "not normal". I do not know a single person without at least a Myspace or Facebook account. Facebook is a world wide phenomenon. It keeps people connected and linked that most likely would never be able to otherwise. There are pro's and con's to this of course, but as an example of a study abroad student, I guarantee I would not be able to know what is going on in majority of my friend's lives without Facebook. The costs of telephone calls and texts are insanely high, and Facebook is free and allows me to access all that I am missing back in the states.

Social Media allows people to interact in ways we could never without it. People don't have time to have an hour long telephone conversation everyday with multiple people. It is very easy to catch up on someone's life through a simple message on the computer, even email. Social Media enables a route of communication not just for personal life but for businesses, purchases, and anything you can basically imagine. Businesses have boomed due to advertisements or media sites because they get the word out quicker and faster. People hardly read the ads in the newspaper now, the world revolves around online communication and advertising on a website such as Twitter or Facebook makes people notice because that is where their primary focus is now.

Social Media has benefited many world events. For example, the situation in Egypt the dictator was able to be overthrown and kicked out due to Facebook groups and protests online. Latest news has been broken out over Twitter before being announced on headline shows like CNN or newspapers such as The New York Times. Social Media is a driven force that is only proceeding forward. There is no stopping it. For the most part, I find it very beneficial and makes people's lives easier. The only concern is that teenagers now and children growing up are going to be even more technology obsessed then my generation and will have social skill problems in the real world face to face. As long as it is monitored, and used in the correct way, Social Media will continue to change the way the world functions.
